School Council
We would like to introduce you to our New City Primary School’s Head Boy, Head Girl and their Deputies. They are here to support all of the children across the school and we are extremely proud of them.
Our School Council is an elected group of students from all year groups across the school. The Council meets every 2 weeks with one of the school’s Learning Mentors. Children prepare for the meetings by talking with their classes about ideas and issues which the students feel are important.
The School Council take ideas and proposals to the Head Teacher for consideration.
The object of the New City School Council is to help our children to:
- enjoy and feel empowered by their education
- feel that their school responds to their needs and views
- have the opportunity to let adults know their feelings and opinions about things that affect them
- have a say about decisions, and to play an active role in making their school a better place
- develop life skills through participation
Some Of the reasons we love New City School

Our school is such a wonderful place to be. Our teachers make the lessons fun and they are never boring. In science we do real fun experiments. The teachers also take time explaining new projects and new learning. They will always support children if they are finding something difficult.
Our teachers are always understanding and we can always talk to them about any problems we may be having knowing they will do their best to help.
Trips are another thing that we look forward too.
New pupils that attend our school always like it here because at New City we are very
friendly and helpful.
Our playground has lots of exciting things. We have the Jungle Gym, a gym to keep you fit and healthy and balls, skipping ropes and lots of other playground toys.
We like our school because it has a variety of cultures and everyone gets on so well.
Our school dinners are lovely the ladies are always smiling and helpful. There is always something nice for lunch. They also listen to any suggestions that we may have about the menu.
Eco-warrior
At New City, each Key Stage 2 class has a designated ‘Eco-warrior’; Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have a year group Eco-warrior. The role of an Eco Warrior is to help care for our school environment: they help others to follow our eco-code, monitor our energy use in the school, and encourage teachers and children to recycle.
The Eco Warriors meet once every half term to take part in discussions and votes and feedback any relevant information to their class.
Following the nationally recognised Eco-school’s program, their additional role is to promote global citizenship throughout the school through planting, litter picking and many more varied activities.
Last year, New City managed to achieve the Eco-school’s Green Flag award for the first time! This year’s Eco- warriors will be attempting to repeat this success. We wish them the very best of luck and thank them for their hard work and dedication to improving the school.
Peer Mentor
At New City children apply to become a Peer Mentor. The children are then interviewed for his position. What is their role? The role of a Peer Mentor is very variable but at the heart of the role the Peer Mentor works to support children to ensure they are happy and safe.
They are the ambassadors for New City!
